Bankless Africa is now Sovereign Frontier
Helloo there fren, it’s been a while we shipped an issue of this newsletter. We have been heads down rebranding. And we are excited to announce that we have evolved from Bankless Africa to Sovereign Frontier.
How we got here
Two years ago, we set out to solve a major problem facing Africa in the web3 space – lack of access to legit quality crypto education and information. A lot of existing communities that claimed were educating people lead them to the wrong path where they either got liquidated from leverage trading, scammed or put their money in pump & dump project tokens. The narrative that Crypto was a scam was rampant, and people were constantly warned not to get near it. Personally(thinkDecade here😉) I had experience how useful and innovative the technology was after using Bitcoin and also ended up contributing in DAOs. I was a major contributor in BanklessDAO. A DAO that made it a mission to properly educate and onboard people into crypto. I was a member of the DAO from the day it launched. As someone who had been a victim to improper education and had been suffering from information asymmetry, the mission of the DAO resonated with me quite well. The idea of establishing an educational initiative to solve the problem was something that was constantly on my mind. BanklessDAO provided a perfect opportunity and alignment to get this idea started. Thus, a month later after BanklessDAO was launched, I posted the first proposal to launch Bankless Africa. It’s been a journey of impact since then. We have had some pretty dang ups and downs, but through it all, we have created something that we are immensely proud of. Two years later, we have created:
One of the most impactful web3 podcast giving Africa builders voices while providing unique perspective to the global web3 space.
Our newsletter has also grown to become a leader in the web3 space in Africa.
Through Bankless Africa, many Africans joined the DAO space, most of them are now contributing and earning within various DAOs.
We also created a community that serves as a place for both new and old web3 folks to converge.
We have helped facilitate some great web3 events across Africa such as ETHAccra and more.
We have gradually seen immerse number of Africans getting into web3 with diverse skills and experiences ready to contribute and build in the Web3 space. The ecosystem has evolved in many ways. It’s not the same space as it was when we started, and progress has been made in providing quality Web3 education for the masses on the continent. So what’s next?
It’s time we evolve too!
What got us here won’t get us there. We want to scale our impact to adapt to the changing demands of the space. Thus the birth of Sovereign Frontier. Sovereign Frontier itself is an experiment in trying to figure out solutions to some of the problems faced Africans and others in the Web3 space.
Some of the questions we are asking ourselves include.
❔ Now that we got the attention of the masses around the impact of Web3 technologies, what next?
❔ Now that we got lots of builders(developers, creators, entrepreneurs who don’t want to be on the sidelines, what next?
❔ What is next? what is next? everywhere we look, we see this question!
What’s next!
We believe the future is onchain. limitless opportunities without borders. And we are glad many people are realizing this. So here are some answers to what’s next for us.
➡️ We doubling down on education, media, community and onboarding. We want to continue to shape the narrative around the impact of Web3 in Africa and beyond!
➡️ We will also be elevating builders strongly. We believe the next phase of the Africa decentralized revolution is empowering builders to harness the technology to build solutions that affect lives on the continent. We are therefore going all in on builders!
➡️ Community at the center. We are also going to engage our community in ways we havn’t before. This means, more onchain activities, initiatives and IRL Meet ups.
➡️ Our media will also move Onchain. anyone would be able to collect and own our newsletter issues, podcast episodes and blog posts.
➡️ More valuable content for our audience. We are revamping our newsletter format to include more ways people can earn in Web3.
➡️ Cohort based Web3 programs
➡️ And a lot more. 👁️👁️
We are excited to progress the world, especially places that matter such as Africa towards a decentralized future.
