For a while now, crypto X(twitter) has been buzzing with Sonic. A new L1 blockchain born out of the ashes of an already existing L1 blockchain - Fantom. From what we have seen so far, Sonic is not just aiming to be another L1, but one that differentiates itself based on innovation, powerful incentives and dynamic community activation.

The Tech
Yes, Sonic is in it for the Tech😉. Clocking over 10,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality. In Testnets, it achieved transaction finality in a record-breaking 720 milliseconds. It’s basically a L1 speedster. But why does speed matter?
🚤 User experience : Real-time Transactions
Nobody likes to wait. Whether it's a microtransaction in a play-to-earn game, swapping tokens on a DeFi platform, or minting NFTs, users expect instant results. Slow block confirmations lead to frustration and reduced trust in platforms, waiting for your onchain transactions to execute can be frustrating and costly. With Sonic, applications can deliver real-time, lag-free experiences, making it possible to mirror the speed of traditional platforms.
↗️ Scalability Without Bottlenecks
Blockchains often face congestion during high activity, resulting in slower speeds and higher fees. Sonic’s speed means it can handle high-demand scenarios—like NFT drops or token launches—without compromising performance and hiking transaction fees. This enables developers to confidently build applications that cater to millions of users without fearing network slowdowns during peak usage.
💲Competitive Edge in a Crowded Market
In decentralized finance for example, speed directly translates to opportunities. Traders lose money in slow ecosystems due to slippage or delayed order execution. Having a chain that is fast can be the difference between making it or getting rekt in the market place.
In addition to being blazingly fast, Sonic also boasts of other unique technologies such as Asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerance, live pruning, and Proof of Stake.
All these technologies allow Sonic to provide developers with exceptional scalability and storage capabilities while delivering a fast and seamless user experience.
A Builder’s Dream Land?
Builders are the backbone of any thriving blockchain ecosystem. The ability for an ecosystem to engineer and execute convincing incentive mechanisms that attract and retain builders determines whether that ecosystem grows or dies. When it comes to builder incentives, it looks like Sonic rolls the red carpet for builders. Here are some funding opportunities available to builders on Sonic.
Fee Monetization 💰 : This mechanism enables applications built on Sonic to earn up to 90% of the fees generated by the applications. While this concept isn’t new, only few blockchains have been able to implement this mechanism successfully. Sonic aims to scale this mechanism by leveraging on lessons they learnt from operating it on Fantom. Projects have to be approved to participate in fee monetization. The diagram below shows a compelling argument on why Fee monetization could be a game changer for builders on Sonic.
Innovator Fund : Sonic has also earmarked a hefty 200 million S tokens to onboard new applications and support novel ideas/projects that are building on Sonic.
Sonic & Sodas : This initiative supercharges the Sonic community with funding to host developer focused networking events across the world.
Sonic Accelerator : redacted…..redacted, yet to be announced by Sonic, looks like they are cooking an accelerator program. We will bring you update once it’s live. for the time being, let them cook.
These different incentive opportunities make it compelling to build on Sonic. Sonic recently released their upgraded and default Testnet in anticipation of Mainnet. it’s called Blaze, it’s ready for developers to Test out! check out the link in the Action Zone/Quick Links 🖇️
User-Centric Incentives
For the end-users, Sonic isn't holding back either:
Airdrop Extravaganza: Approximately 200 million S tokens are set aside to reward users. This might just be one of the biggest airdrops yet. You can participate by playing Sonic Arcade and being active on Fantom.
Is Sonic season upon us?
With Mainnet launch slated for December 2024, Sonic is poised to make waves. Its blend of speed, developer incentives, and user rewards position it as a compelling platform for both builders and investors. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.
